Orientation Mentors help design and implement various programs and activities. Mentors also are assigned to lead groups of incoming Scholars throughout FTCAP and/or SHO TIME.

Orientation Mentors must be in good academic standing and be available for mandatory training sessions in March. FTCAP Mentors are required to come to campus the evening of May 19 and be fully available throughout Schreyer FTCAP days, May 20 and 21. SHO TIME Mentors are required to return to campus on August 18 and be fully available throughout SHO TIME.

Mentors who successfully meet the requirements of the mentoring course will earn one academic honors credit.

Application deadline: February 22, 2008
Application form: Apply online here.

The goal of the Schreyer Honors College—Society for Distinguished Alumni Mentor Program is to facilitate reciprocal, one-on-one relationships in which a Schreyer Scholar may gain a role model, a trusted adviser, a guide, and a wise friend while the Distinguished Alumna/us may gain a fresh, personal connection to Penn State, tangible evidence of his/her impact on the future, and satisfaction in nurturing the potential of a talented, committed young leader.

Distinguished Alumni volunteering for this partnership with Schreyer Scholars have successful careers in the fields of Law, Business, Education, Media, Public Service, Science, and Engineering.  Recognition as Distinguished Alumni is given by the Board of Trustees and is the highest honor presented to Penn State's outstanding alumni.  The mentoring relationship may last for one year or several years.

Mentoring with Honors [Scholars are matched with Scholar alumni]

Eligibility:  Open to all Schreyer Scholars in good academic standing

Application deadline: The application deadline for the Mentoring with Honors Program for the 2007-08 academic year was November 2, 2007. Scholars with an interest in mentoring programs should e-mail Donna Meyer, coordinator of student programs, at dlh15@psu.edu.

The mentoring relationship is a one-year commitment made by both the protégé and the mentor to create and develop a relationship that we hope will be a mutually beneficial professional and life-changing experience.  It is not uncommon that the mentor and protégé mutually agree to continue their mentoring relationship for longer periods of time.
